From prosthetic body parts, pharmaceuticals, communication technologies like cell
phones and the Internet, a constellation of mechanisms are transforming our lives. As
society evolves in this manner our traditional notions of what is human and non-human
becomes interestingly murky. Curiosity for such notions has led me to collect
representations of humans and mechanisms that I reshuffle and recombine into works
of art. Recontextualizing these types of forms has allowed me to invent narrative
structures informed by personal and societal attitudes concerning the evolution of
the human condition in relation to developing technologies Initially, immediate methods
of working such as drawing, collage, screenprinting, and found object assemblage are
key to my improvisational, yet informed, creativity. Eventually, in the same manner in
which I have reshuffled and recombined found objects and images, I cannabalistically
reassemble elements from my own works into new compositions. This systematic
approach results in carefully planned bodies of work in various media. In this way my
work also explores the irrational yet lyrical ways in which we create meaning.
